    Program Requirements

    1. Photocopy or electronic copy of a New Jersey Standard Instructional Certificate.

    2. One letter of recommendation from the applicant's current or previous school principal or supervisor, on school district letterhead, certifying the completion of two years of successful, full-time employment under a New Jersey Standard Instructional Certificate.

    3. Official graduate transcripts. Applicants must hold a master's degree or higher degree equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university. Applicants are not usually admitted with a GPA less than 2.75 in their most recent degree.


    No program requirements may be met at any other institution.

    2. Successful completion of 300 internship hours from 15:230:530 "Internship in Educational Administration I" and 15:230:531 "Internship in Educational Administration II" at Rutgers Graduate School of Education or an academic equivalent from a New Jersey accredited college or university.

    School Counseling Program The personal statement for school counseling program applicants is to focus on the topic Why I Want to Study and Contribute to the School Counseling Profession. The applicant is to address the following: Why s/he is interested in pursuing graduate study in the school counseling profession, short term career objectives, what the applicant intends to gain out of graduate study, and long term goals. Given national changing demographics, the applicant is to comment on the role of the school counselor in work with multicultural populations. Counseling Psychology Program The personal statement for applicants to the counseling psychology program is to focus on the topic Why I Want to Study and Contribute to the Counseling Psychology Profession.     3. Official undergraduate transcripts - the New Jersey Department of Education requires a minimum GPA of 2.75 to be admitted to a teacher education program.

     

    No decision of admission can be processed less than 2 weeks before the beginning of the semester. 

    Test Requirements

    Passing Praxis Core test scores (Reading: 156, Writing: 162, Math: 150). Information on the Core test can be found here: https://www.ets.org/praxis/about/core

     

    In lieu of Praxis Core scores:

    * SAT scores greater than 50th percentile in both Math and Reading or both Math and Verbal

    * ACT scores greater than 50th percentile in both Math and English

    * GRE scores greater than 50th percentile in both Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning

     

    Test scores must not be older than five years at the time of the application deadline. Only official (not self-reported) scores will be accepted.

    Personal Statement Instructions

    Please provide a 3 paragraph statement that explains: 1) your desire to become a teacher; 2) your reasons for applying to the specific program area (e.g., Elementary, English, Special Education, Mathematics, etc.); and 3) your understanding of the GSE’s commitment to social justice education (as per the GSE mission statement) as it relates to your specific teaching goals.
