    Because you are applying for two programs, the essay needs to address both aspects of the combined program. 1. What are your reasons for applying to Rutgers University School of Social Work MSW/Ph.D.? Discuss how your personal, professional, and/or community experiences and values affected your decision. 2. Select and describe a social problem of concern to you and describe how you believe MSW level professional social workers can help alleviate this issue, and how a PhD will allow you to intervene in a different way. 3. Discuss your reasons for deciding to complete the Rutgers PhD program in social work at this time, together with the MSW. Why put a research degree with a practice degree? 4. Describe your relevant research experiences, and policy, practice, and/or community experience. 5. In what ways do your emerging research ideas address human rights, with particular focus on issues of social, racial, economic, or environmental justice? How might these ideas work to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion? 6. Comment on your skills and strengths and how each contributes to your interest in the MSW or the PhD. Discuss your career aspirations and substantive areas of interest for study and research. You may include additional information that may be helpful to the admissions committee.

    Quantitative Reasoning Sample - Submit one of the following: (1) Grade(s) received in a statistics and/or math course found on your official transcript, (2) Quantitative GRE score, or (3) Paper containing quantitative analysis.

    Program Requirements

    * Official transcripts from all universities applicant has attended - both undergradaute and graduate

    * Bachelor's degree in Spanish OR at least 12 upper division (300 or 400 level) OR graduate credits in Spanish language, linguistics, literature, translation, culture, or civilizations

    * Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 total, or equivalent

    * A valid license to teach Spanish OR a valid provisional/temporary license for an applicant pursuing licensure/certification OR relevant work experience of at least three years

    * Three Letters of Recommendation, 2 of which should be written by former professors that can assess the applicant's academic performance

    * A personal statement, written in Spanish, which expresses the applicant's purpose and goals in pursuing the M.A.T.

    Test Requirements

    The GRE General test is not taken into account for MAT applicants. The TOEFL or IELTS if the applicant's undergraduate degree is from a non-English speaking university.

    Test Requirements

    The GRE is recommended but not required. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores required for international applicants whose undergraduate education was completed in a non-English speaking country.
